Where Will Gio Reyna Move To In A Summer Transfer?

Gio Reyna Ready To Depart Dortmund

Gio Reyna's time at Dortmund is almost certainly coming to an end.

It was reported earlier by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg that Gio Reyna is highly likely heading for the exit. In such a case, a Summer Transfer move is likely.

The only information so far is that there is interest from Spain, Italy and France.

Where Will He Likely Go?

Last season, before taking a persona non grata position in Nottingham Forest, Reyna had strong interest from Marseille. Given Marseille's keen interest and Reyna choosing instead a disinterested Forest, this is a good indicator that the USMNT national likely doesn't see the French league as a good home. We speculate the likelihood of a French side as 3/10

A Spanish or Italian side seems much more likely.

We know Milan has a soft spot for American players, with star player Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah finding a home there.

Another thing to point out is that many recent Milan acquisitions have a reputation for being "flops", or under-performing players that make their side weaker. With João Félix and to a slightly smaller extent Rafael Leão fitting this profile.

We know Serie A sides like to pair nationals together, with Napoli recently pairing up Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay. We see the liklihood of a Milan being 6/10.

What about a Spanish side? It seems in Reyna's nature to want to be in the most competitive environment possible. In this vain, the La Liga and Serie A match up pretty evenly. However, having the opportunity to play against the superstars of Real Madrid and Barcelona may swing the American in La Liga's favour.

Sevilla showed interest in Reyna last year, perhaps they are still on the cards. Other sides like Real Sociedad have shown recent interest on onboarding more foreign players. Real Sociedad also have a lacklustre defence, with no real world class players. Gio Reyna's could easily slot himself into a team like this. We give the likelihood here a 7/10.

All in all, it's hard to say. We know the American is capable of big things, but recent years have been tough on Reyna. Coming off of World Cup drama, the American has just had one injury and bad performance after another. In there, there have been glimpses of hope of what the player could be. We can only speculate if a big club will take a chance on him like Dortmund did when he was just a wonderkid.
